* News Flash * NHRA Jr. Drag Racing at the "Q"
San Diego QUALCOMM Stadium -- A ten year old boy in
the right
lane eases his brightly colored 1/2 scale dragster to the starting
line.
His opponent, already in position in the left lane, is an 11 year old
girl.
Mom, the crew chief, makes a last minute adjustment to her son's
shoulder
harness and then moves to the pits to help dad with lunch. As the
starter
activates the national event style "christmas tree," an alcohol or
gasoline
powered engine thrusts each 225 LB car and driver down the 1/10 mile
track
in about 11 seconds at 55 MPH. Squeals of delight can be heard
from
the many spectators as drivers coast to the turn out, anxious to learn their
reaction
time, speed, and ET computed on the locally owned and operated national
event
starting line timing system.

Safety in the Pits and in Qualcomm Section J:
1. NHRA Headquarters has put all track operators on notice to maintain
strict personal safety standards. In the best interest of the
sport, racers, families, sponsors, fans, vendors and pedestrians, the
following rules must be
observed (with the exception of Jr. Dragsters involved in the race):
you must
be a State DMV licensed driver
to operate anything that
has a motor, period! Non-compliance
with this
rule will result in automatic and immediate disqualification for one
year!
2. Helmets must be worn at all
times by riders of non motorized equipment with wheels.
Non-compliance with this rule will result in impounding the equipment for the
day.
3. Race cars cannot be moving under power in the pits.
4. Speed limit
at Qualcomm "and" in the pit areas is not to exceed 15 mph!!!
Other acts of unsafe behavior will be handled on a case-by-case basis.
Mufflers:
1. Mufflers are required at any event hosted by Team POSSIBILITIES at Qualcomm
Stadium until the
Universe comes to an end.
2. Clever people who gut their mufflers and weld them back together are
not fooling anyone. If your car is above 93 dB, you will be
disqualified. The 93 dB noise level requirement at Qualcomm
Stadium is dictated by the City of San Diego.
3. Mike and Bill will decide which cars are too loud.
4. Life is tough; it's tougher if you add unnecessary drama!!
